How to Relieve Stress as a College Student?

As a college student, there are times when you can feel overwhelmed with classes or work. Stress can put a real strain on your mental health and could lead you to shut down. Trust me, I get it. I have classes early morning and then go to work for the entire afternoon. I barely make time for homework but I still try to keep my grades up the best way I can and there were times when I felt like giving up. After getting used to my crazy schedule, I found a way to help relieve some stress by watching shows or movies on various streaming services. Today I will give the top 10 feel-good tv shows or movies that not only help me feel less anxious and more relaxed. Hopefully, by the end of this list, you would consider these options to help you out as well.

1. "From Scratch" on Netflix

This limited drama series came out on Netflix on October 21, 2022, and let me just say that this series was one of the best shows I have watched this year. It was an immersive experience that made me go through a rollercoaster of emotions and It was amazing. Every night after work, I would watch one to two episodes and it helped me feel relaxed. If you ever get the chance to watch this drama, please do because I promise your worries will be forgotten once you get into this show.

2. The Vampire Diaries on HBO Max

The Vampire Diaries is one of those shows where you can watch over and over and not feel tired or bored. After running 8 seasons from 2009-2015, you really just put on any episode and just watch. The vibe is more calming and the story is intricate. It is great if you want to start a new show or just wanna rewatch certain episodes. If you have HBO Max, then go watch The Vampire Diaries!

3. "Friends" on HBO Max

Now, this show right here can relieve anyone's stress. Friends are at this point a timeless sitcom show and no matter the episode, day, or year, you can just watch and still be entertained. It is also another feel-good show and has 10 seasons (I know that's a lot). The great thing bout Friends is that you don't have to necessarily know the full story from beginning to end. Any random episode can make you laugh and feel happy!

4. Family Guy on Hulu

Family Guy is that type of animated show where you are bound to have a laugh no matter what. This is the only show where they can push so many buttons and boundaries but still maintain that comical aspect. Get onto Hulu and simply laugh your butt off!

5. Icarly and Victorious on Paramount+

Yes, this has two shows at five but I just couldn't put one or the other. The best thing about Paramount+ is that you can look back at your childhood shows and feel the nostalgia. As a college student, nothing makes me feel warm inside then watching Icarly and Victorious and who doesn't want to watch what once was their childhood? Back to the Future is another 80s classic that combines comedy, action, and sci-fi all in one. Not only is the whole idea of going back in time is an interesting concept but the aesthetic of the film just makes this movie simply iconic. You can watch Back to the Future on Peacock and on Amazon Prime too.

10. Matilda on Hulu & Starz

Last but not least is Matilda. This is that one movie where anyone (from the age of 7 to 50) can sit down and still be entertained by such a heartfelt movie. Focusing on a little girl who loves to read, is incredibly smart, and develops powers, the entire movie is a staple to childhood classics. Hulu and Starz have the movie Matilda available so please do not hesitate and go watch it now!

Why this List?

The reason why I made this list is that each of these movies/shows has helped me relieve stress time and time again. College can get hard and really overwhelming, especially during midterms and finals. Having a show or movie that makes you happy or distracts you for even a second can help you mentally. This list is simply suggestions, but if you have that specific movie or show that relieves your stress or makes you happy then you should watch it whenever you get the chance!
